The number of sheep in Kazakhstan decreased by 4.2% inside a month PDF Print E-mail

In November, the number of sheep and goats declined more significantly compared with October, both in absolute and relative terms. In October, the decline was 695.8 thousand heads, or 3.3% compared to the previous month. On November 1, according to the Statistics Committee of Kazakhstan, the number of sheep and goats in Kazakhstan reached 20,138.6 thousand heads. By December 1, statisticians recorded 19,292.8 thousand heads of these animals. As a result, in November the number of sheep and goats decreased by 845.8 thousand heads, or by 4.2%.

The number of sheep and goats declined in all regions of Kazakhstan, without exception, but the biggest decline was observed in regions with a high animal population. These are Almaty region - minus 182.7 thousand heads, the South Kazakhstan region - 162.1 thousand heads, Zhambyl region - 126 thousand head, the East Kazakhstan region- 121.6 thousand heads, reports the IA "Kazakh-Zerno."

The difference in the number of sheep and goats in Kazakhstan for the period of 2016-17, as of December 1, remained positive in favour of the current year. We recall, as of August 1, the number of these animals in Kazakhstan was lower than last year by 60.3 thousand heads. As of September 1, the population, on the contrary, increased by 75.7 thousand individuals, as of October 1, the difference was 114.9 thousand heads in favour of the current year, and as of November 1, 130.4 thousand heads – 20,008.2 thousand heads in 2016 and 20,138.6 thousand heads in 2017. As of December 1, in 2017, the number sheep and goats was bigger than in 2016 by 97.9 thousand heads or by 0.5%.

In three regions of Kazakhstan, population of sheep and goats exceeds 2 million heads. These are the South-Kazakhstan region – 3,930.5 thousand heads, Almaty region – 3,623 thousand heads and Zhambyl region – 2,600.3 thousand heads. In the other three regions, the sheep population ranges from 1 to 2 million heads. In other regions, the number of sheep is less than 1 million heads, and the least is in the North-Kazakhstan region - 375,000 heads as of November 1, 2017.
